I hope each of you will take advantage of this opportunity and get the kids in your life in on this FREE outing. There will be no cost but a $5.00 refundable registration fee will be charged. This opens up to the public this month so get your reservations in early as we are going to try to fill all 75 available spots.
We are offering some great activities in the next several months. Youth Shoot at Beaver Creek, A&A Shoot, and the Old Woman Creek Canoe trip. The A&A shoot also offers the opportunity to get together with your friends in W&W for a great Steak Dinner, even if you don’t want to shoot. See the newsletter flyer for more information.
Thanks to all who helped with fish fest. Over 150 hours of volunteer time and a lot of happy kids, especially on Saturday when the lack of wind let the Holiday and Captain Bratton get out to the fish.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
On February 26, 2008, we hosted our annual banquet thanks to the generosity and efforts of many of our members. Once again it was a success with the proceeds being used for many worthwhile causes. We received the following letter dated June 16, 2008 from Thomas J. Rabe, Executive Vice President, Greater Cleveland Safety Council, Inc., describing how some of these funds were used. Planning is under way for our February 2009 banquet. I encourage you to get involved. It’s a fun night and everyone should feel proud of how our efforts contribute to our community and the future of our interest in the outdoors:
On behalf or the Lake Erie Safe Boating Council, I want to thank you and your organization for the very generous donation of $1,000.00 to this year’s North Coast Harbor Boating and Fishing Fest. As you requested, your donation was applied toward the rental of the Holiday Fishing Charter Boat.
Several hundred people, mostly children, were given the opportunity to go fishing out on Lake Erie aboard the Holiday during the Fest. For many it was their first fishing experience, on that I’m sure they will remember for the rest of their life.
Each year this Fest offer the public an opportunity to come down to the lakefront to take a boat ride and go fishing at one of out greatest natural resources – Lake Erie. Because this event is free, it truly is open to all the citizens of out community, young and old alike, regardless of their economic, ethnic or racial background. I truly believe that this Fest opens a door for many people and kindles a spark of interest in boating and fishing that will last a lifetime.
This year’s Fest was a huge success much in part due to great weather that we experienced which prompted large crowds of people to attend but also due to the support of our volunteers and the financial support from organizations such as yours. Thank you again and we look forward to your continued support in the future.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Rabe
Executive Vice President

Sporting Clays at Hill’n Dale Club – June 11, 2008:
Submitted by Larry Koverman
Woods and Waters Club members and guests were treated to a beautiful day at Hill’n Dale on June 11 th.
There were 26 shooters, and our president, Jim Faddoul joined the group for lunch. Jim spoke on behalf of the club’s membership needs and related the success of the Winter Banquet, and how the proceeds are appropriated to areas of community and educational needs.
We had one junior shooter, Joe Zielinski, that took advantage of the free event offer for those under 16.
The course was a challenge as this was the same set-up from the previous weekend’s tournament.
Top shooters were: Tex Mobley 88, Rusty Abel 84, Joe DiGiacomo 81 as well as some others shooting in the high 70’s.
We ended the afternoon with a reverse raffle and guest, Homer Smith took home $95.
We had a good turn-out and great weather! Come again next year!
Thanks to all and to Hill’n Dale Club.
Woods & Waters Club – Walleye Fishing - June 18, 2008:
Submitted by Wid Lynn
Our second walleye trip was on June 18 th. Six Woods & Waters members went on this day. It looked like another rough one coming up. The winds were pretty strong out of the northwest. So, went east of Kelley’s Island and set up on a long troll running with the wind heading southeast. The catching was slow. After several hours, we passed Cedar Point and Huron. With only a few fish in the cooler, we pulled the lines and went back up wind to try again. The winds were still pretty strong. So, we set up another long troll down wind. The catching was still slow, but a little better than the first run. The winds did let up a little. At 3:15 we pulled the lines and headed back. The GPS said that we were 15 miles from home. Due to the front that was going through, we ended up with only 14 walleyes in the 2 to 4 lb range. This was not one of our better trips.
Captain Ray Henry said that he would be willing to take another trip in July at half price if anyone was interested. So, if anyone wants to go in July, please contact Wid Lynn @ 419-798-8616 and we’ll set it up.

On a beautiful, sunny morning 13 members visited Beaver Creek Club in Amherst to participate in our second annual pistol shoot. Three of these men joined the club as a result of this event and we welcome John Chyla, George Horvath, and Randy Solsman. We gathered for coffee and donuts, reviewed safety rules, and warmed up shooting at some favorite comical posters. The competitive target shooting at 25 yards was won by Phil Fulton (39) followed by Bill Heppner (38) and Tom Poland (39). The swinging cans competition produced a shoot off with Larry Koverman, George Horvath and Bill Heppner with George Horvath winning the gold. The 25 yard poker competition was won by Randy Solsman with three kings, followed by John Chyla with a pair of kings and Fred Bangeman with a pair of queens. The 12 yard poker competition had George Horvath winning with 5 aces beating out John Chyla and Randy Solsman both with 4 aces and Fred Bangeman with 3 aces. The mornings activities concluded shooting at gallon jugs full of water and an impressive exhibition involving a Smith & Wesson 460, 500 Wyoming Express, 375 J.P. Jones, 454 Casul, 357 Magnums, 45 ACP, 45 Long Colt along with others was appreciated by all.
Jim Faddoul joined us for lunch consisting of Greek style lamb chops, barbecued pork chops and lime dill shrimp. Dessert along with beverages rounded out culinary activities for the day.
It was good to see longtime members Jack Keeler and club secretary Lou Sharpe at the outing. Fred Anselm and Fred Kidd spent the morning distinguishing themselves from Fred Bangman. Please think about joining us next year!

NRA:After sparking America’s Right-to-Carry revolution in 1987 by passing its "shall-issue" carry law, then reinforcing that right in 2005 by passing landmark "Castle Doctrine" legislation, Florida is again leading the nation in securing your Second Amendment rights--this time, by passing a law protecting the right to have a firearm in your vehicle when driving to work, shop, do business or go anywhere you have a right to be. Titled the "Preservation & Protection of the Right to Keep & Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act," the measure was signed into law by Florida Governor Charlie Crist on April 15 after a three-year fight in the state legislature. The law takes effect July 1, 2008.
Under the new law, employers, retailers and businesses cannot negate your right to self-defense by banning legally-owned firearms in locked vehicles in business parking lots. If you’re an employee of a company with a gun-ban policy, the legislation sanctions your right to keep a firearm in your locked vehicle in the company parking lot if you have a valid Right-to-Carry license. The law puts an end to law-abiding employees being forced to travel unarmed and defenseless to work because of gun bans at those business destinations. And it puts an end to gun-ban businesses prohibiting a customer, vendor or "invitee" from keeping a firearm locked in a parked car while conducting business at the facility--no RTC license required
Late last month, the Senate gave final approval to legislation expanding gun owners' rights and sent it to Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland. Keith Dailey, Strickland's spokesman, called provisions in the legislation "common sense protections for law-abiding gun owners."
The bill, approved 25-7 in the Senate, would allow people who are eligible to own guns but don't have concealed carry permits to carry unloaded firearms and ammunition in their vehicles. It also would allow concealed carry permit holders to carry a loaded handgun in an unlocked glove compartment or center console, as long as it was closed. In addition, the bill would allow concealed carry in shelters – including those in state parks, restrooms and parking garages.
The provisions were added to legislation enacting the so-called "castle doctrine" – giving Ohioans the right to defend themselves against intruders with guns, baseball bats or anything else without having to prove they acted in self-defense.
It would be up to prosecutors to prove they didn't act in self-defense.
On June 11 th, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed the National Rifle Association (NRA)-backed “Castle Doctrine” legislation into law to expand the self-defense rights of law-abiding citizens. Senate Bill 184, sponsored by State Senator Steve Buehrer (R-1), protects the rights of innocent victims to defend themselves from criminal attack while expanding the rights of concealed-carry permit holders. Also included in SB 184 are several pro-gun provisions that make Ohio's concealed carry laws more “user friendly”. Among these revisions include important clarifications for persons without a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to legally transport firearms in an automobile, and pick up/drop off abilities for license holders in school safety zones. The bill also designates mandatory legal fees for gun owners who require court orders to have firearms returned to them, decriminalizes concealed carry in privately owned parking garages, allows permit holders to carry a firearm in an unlocked glove compartment or center console and removes the written test requirement for renewal of a concealed handgun license
